PROGRAMS AND SERVICE INFORMATION

SERVICES

Parent Resource Group
Meets the last Monday of every month between 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. (except summer months). The group is facilitated by a parent and Autism Support Worker and sessions are aimed at discussion of issues affecting families of children and adults with autism. Guest speakers provide information relevant to advocacy, lobbying, respite and other issues that are of interest to families.

Parent Education Sessions
For parents with a child who has been recently diagnosed with autism/pervasive developmental disorder. These sessions are offered twice per year in November and March and are conducted one evening per week for four weeks.

Sibling Support Group
Offered once per year when there is sufficient demand. Provides an opportunity for siblings to constructively express their feelings and concerns regarding their brother or sister who has autism.

Information, Library of Books, Videos, Tapes & Speakers
ATSS maintains a lending library with holdings that include: books, videotapes, cassette tapes, and information about speakers. These resource materials are available for loan to families, students, professionals and the public.

The borrowing period for videos and all written material is two weeks. We ask that all borrowers co-operate with this policy in order that materials are available for others to use and benefit from.

Newsletter
ATSS members receive a newsletter four times a year updating current happenings and activities, as well as providing helpful information regarding autism treatments, services and programs.

Public Awareness and Education
Provided through Autism Awareness Month in October, media releases, displays, information packages, and speaking to service groups, educators and community agencies throughout the year.

Advocacy
Assisting families to lobby for improved services and programs to assist their children.

Fund-raising
Various activities including a $100.00 per plate Gala Evening held annually in the spring as well as an Annual Jaunt for Autism held in early summer.
